Sabert Corporation Settles Lawsuit Against Placon Corporation

Placon to stop selling items in dispute and pay settlement.

Sayreville, NJ – June 1, 2015 – Sabert Corporation is pleased to announce that Sabert and Placon Corporation have settled their lawsuits related to Sabert’s U.S. Patent No. D527,956 for its Square Bowl & Lid line.

Madison, Wisconsin-based Placon has agreed to pay a confidential settlement amount as well as to redesign Placon’s Fresh N’ Clear food containers that were alleged to infringe Sabert’s U.S. Patent.  Sabert obtained the patent in 2006 and sued Placon for patent infringement based on Placon’s Fresh N’Clear line of products.  As a result of the settlement, Sabert’s patent is still in force.

Sabert recognized the superior merchandising as well as shipping efficiency benefits of a short life square bowl and was the first to bring the idea to the marketplace. With its elegant and contemporary look, the Square Bowl & Lid line continues to be the category’s gold standard. Innovation has been one of the hallmarks of Sabert’s marketplace success with more than one hundred new items launched since January 2013 alone.

“We take great pride in the efforts we make to provide our customers with unique products and solutions, and we will continue to take steps to protect those investments, just as we did in this case” commented John M. Healey, Sabert’s President of North America.
