Gen Z’s Growing Appetite for Snacks as Meals
Snacking is changing traditional mealtimes, with Gen Z at the forefront of this shift. According to Datassential’s August 2026 Table Stakes Tracker, nearly 90% of Gen Z consumers replaced a meal with a snack at least once in the past month.
Alongside swapping meals for snacks, Gen Z is snacking between them, too. Thirty-five percent of Gen Z consumers snack between meals daily or almost daily, according to Datassential, which gives operators more chances to reach younger consumers throughout the day.
For foodservice operators, that’s a reason to think beyond traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner. The question is shifting from which meal to which moment, and how to make familiar favorites worthy for those occasions.
Making Menu Favorites Snackable
As the definition of a meal becomes more flexible, menu and packaging choices can follow suit. Three factors can make the difference: portion size, portability and packaging that fits the food.
Craveable sides like fries or mozzarella sticks work well in Fries & Sides Scoops, making it easy to eat on-the-go. For consumers who want variety, Clear Compartmented Snack Boxes bring proteins, cheeses, crackers, veggies and dips together in one convenient grab ‘n go option, and the clear lid lets the food sell itself. Heartier choices such as chicken bites or pinwheel wraps pair well with Kraft Fluted Clamshells or PP Hinged Take-Out Containers for a portable option that helps keep food protected in transit.
Whether Gen Z is grabbing a quick bite between meals or swapping a meal for a snack, the right food and packaging pairing helps operators meet them wherever hunger fits into their day.
